The annual Bristol Walk Festival returns throughout May

This immensely popular initiative aims to showcase the best of Bristol with various inclusive walks taking place across the city for people of all ages, interests and abilities.

 

Bristol Walk Festival runs from Wednesday 1 until Friday 31 May 2024.

 

The month-long programme features more than 200 walks and events covering art, environment, nature, history, architecture, walking sport, wellbeing, wildlife and more. Most of these events are FREE and cater for all, making it the perfect way to get fit, make new friends and have fun.

History and architecture walk highlights include ‘Saxons to the 70s Sound Walk’, ‘The Transatlantic Slave Trade Trail’, ‘Discover Bristol’s Queer History’, ‘A Black History Tour in Bristol’, ‘St. Nicholas Market and Air Raid Shelter Walking Tour’ and many more. Browse the list here.

 

Walking sports highlights include ‘Bristol Walking Challenge’, ‘Kingswood Titans Walking Rugby Training’, ‘Walking Netball – Knowle West’, ‘Bristol United Walking Football Club’, ‘Bristol Rovers Walking Football’, ‘Walking Tennis Festival’ and ‘Walking Hockey’. Browse the list here.

 

Nature and Wildlife highlights include walks around ‘Abbot’s Pool’, ‘Long Ashton and Ashton Court’, ‘Bishops Knoll’, ‘Riverside Revelations’, ‘Failand Bluebell Walk’, ‘Tapestry of Trees on the Granny Downs’ and ‘Paradise Bottom and 50 Acres’ as well as themed walks such as the ‘Dawn Chorus Walk’ and ‘Trees Through Time’. To make Bristol Walk Festival, walks are graded in terms of their difficulty, they are as follows: ‘easy’ (mainly flat, gentle pace), ‘fairly easy’ (mainly flat, maybe with steps, gentle pace), ‘moderate’ (more challenging slopes, varied ground, moderate pace) and ‘challenging’ (for experienced walkers, longer distances, brisk pace).
