Starter For Ten follows eighteen-year-old Brian Jackson, whose proudest achievement to date is his A-level results. His idol is Kate Bush and his lifelong dream is to compete on the legendary television quiz show, University Challenge.

We meet Brian in 1984 as he’s preparing to leave his hometown Southend to begin his first year of studies at Bristol University. This classic coming-of-age story sees him soon discovering that falling in love and growing up take a lot more than general knowledge…

Adapted from the hilarious novel by bestselling author David Nicholls and beloved 2006 film, Starter For Ten is a bright and big-hearted new musical. With an irresistible original soundtrack that’s been inspired by the student scene of the 80s; this is a comedy about love, belonging and the vital difference between knowledge and wisdom.

Starter For Ten stars Adam Bregman (Sing Street, Huntington Theatre) as lovesick Essex boy, Brian; Mel Giedroyc (Company, Gielgud) as his mum Irene; Emily Lane as Brian’s unrequited crush Alice (Frozen, Theatre Royal Drury Lane); and Robert Portal (The 39 Steps, West End) as renowned quizmaster, Bamber Gascoigne.
