Simple Things announce set times with the festival’s 2024 edition just around the corner

Making its grand return after a four-year hiatus, next weekend’s Simple Things festival is sure to prove a real highlight of Bristol’s cultural calendar.

 

Simple Things Festival 2024 runs from Friday 23 until Thursday 29 February with the primary day and night programmes set for Saturday 24.

 

With day-time timings (we’ll rundown the nighttime times tomorrow) now announced for all ten of the festival’s stages – the venues taking part this year are Bristol Beacon, SWX, Strange Brew, Rough Trade, The Sportsman and The Lanes – we’ve compiled an in depth rundown of what’s happening when and where…

 

 

Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall:

 

Kicking off proceedings on Beacon’s headline stage will be Kayla Painter at 3 PM, Warp signee Wu-Lu at 4.15 PM, New York indie rockers Les Savy Fav at 5.15 PM and BRIT nominated grime artist CASISDEAD at 6.45 PM.

 

Next up, at 8.15 PM, it will be time for a trancey set from Evian Christ, presenting his Revanchist album live, followed by a live 3D audio visual performance from legendary music producer Max Cooper at 10 PM and, finally, Bristol’s very own techno punk duo Giant Swan closing the stage at 12 AM.

Bristol Beacon’s Lantern Hall:

 

Opening at Lantern Hall at 2 PM is psych-folk artist Tamasene, followed by MP3 Chainsaw at 3 PM, Group Listening at 4 PM, New York singer-songwriter Sam Evian at 5.15 PM, Gazelle Twin at 6.30 PM, Bristol’s Mun Sing at 8 PM, Surgeons Girl and 9 PM, Jeshi at 10.30 PM and MC pioneer Flowdan at 11.30 PM.

Bristol Beacon’s Bridgehouse Stage:

 

On the Bridgehouse Stage, Canty will open at 2 PM, Irish Mellow will play at 2.45 PM,  PM EMMELINE at 3.45 PM, Habibi music maker Ziyad Al-Samman takes to the stage at 4.45 PM, followed by George Riley at 5.45 PM, Miso Extra at 7 PM and Bristol soul band Cousin Kula at 8.15 PM.

 

Moving into the post-dinner sets, genre-defying artist Jessica Winter hits the stage at 9.30 PM, Maria Uzor at 10.45 PM, must-see chaotic live act Fat Dog at 11.45 PM and – closing the stage – cult London group Paranoid London at 1 AM.

Bristol Beacon’s The Cellars (hosted by PTS):

 

Psychotherapy Sessions are curating the Beacon cellars with sets from Moral Fibre at 2 PM, Fig at 3 PM, ThisisDA at 4.15 PM, Tom E. Vercetti x Chemist at 5 PM, ALYA L at 6.30 PM, Torus at 8 PM, Nkisi at 10 PM, Clarity at 12 AM and, finally, K Means x Jurango at 1.30 AM.

SWX:

 

Kicking off the SWX programme is Sun Spot at 2.15 PM, noisy Bristol boys Spectres at 3.15 PM, BBC 6 Music favourite Antony Szmierek at 4.30 PM, KEG at 5.45 PM, Welsh indie rockers The Bug Club at 7 PM, noise rock favourites Gilla Band at 8.30 PM and rock’n’roll headliners Warmduscher at 10 PM.

Strange Brew Room 1:

 

Strange Brew’s main room will be opened by Bristol prog-rockers Mutant-Thoughts at 2 PM, local fast risers Quade at 3 PM, L’Rain at 4 PM, South London trio Honeyglaze at 5.30 PM, DITZ at 6.30 PM, Preston artist Rainy Miller at 7.30 PM, and genre-defying project Space Afrika at 9 PM.

Strange Brew Room 2:

 

The second room will open with a set from Cold Light at 2.30 PM, with sets also scheduled for gritty pop producer Tlya X An, Nadia Struiwigh at 4.30 PM, Shapednoise at 6 PM, Dylan Mallett’s influential Bristol project Silver Waves at 7 PM, and Ireen Amnes (live) at 8.15 PM.

Rough Trade:

 

Rough Trade Bristol will host sets from Nina Cobham at 2.30 PM, Borough Council at 3.30 PM, T.D. at 4.30 PM, Viji at 5.30 PM, O. at 6.30 PM, Dan Carey and Ben Romans-Hopcraft’s Miss Tiny at 7.30 PM, HONESTY at 8.30 PM, Pregoblin at 9.30 PM and Free Love at 10.30 PM.

Sportsman:

 

The Sportsman programme will kick off with Lifter at 2 PM, Bristol post-rockers Foot Foot at 3 PM, local experimenters Ex Agent at 3.45 PM, NEKO at 4.45 PM, Knives at 5.45 PM, Butch Kassity at 6.45 PM, The Psychotic Monks at 7.45 PM, Saloon Dion at 8.45, Deep Tan at 9.45 PM, Gurries at 10.45 PM and returning art rock heroes LICE at 11.30 PM.

The Lanes:

 

The final venue on this list is hosting sets from Sang Froid at 2.30 PM, Rothmans at 3.30 PM, Bristol’s grunge favourites Wych Elm at 4.30 PM, DREAMWAVE at 5.40 PM, Pocket Sun at 6.30 PM, Ekhidna at 7.30 PM, YARD at 8.30 PM and post-punk five-piece Eades at 9.30 PM.
