This critically acclaimed, upbeat musical adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol features all the traditional aspects of the original novel as well as a sprinkling of magic courtesy of BLOC Productions.

 

A Christmas Carol: The Musical runs at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 November 2023.

 

Originally presented by Radio City Entertainment at the Theatre in New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden, BLOC’s latest production features lyrics from musical theatre icon Lynn Ahrens and a book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens. It’s time to get into the festive spirit and what better way to do that than with one of Christmas’ greatest tales?

In keeping with the traditional tale, this show follows Scrooge’s journey from emotionally deprived, miserable miser to open-hearted redemption with all the classic scenes along the way: reacquaint yourself with the poor Cratchit family, the Fezziwig’s Ball and, of course, the three prophetic Christmas spectres.

 

However, this production also gives Dickens’ legendary story a new lease of life with a visually dramatic show that places London right at the centre and introduces the audience to a host of colourful characters both poor and rich as they celebrate Christmas in true Dickensian style.

 

With an enviable reputation for spectacular award-winning shows, local amateur musical theatre company BLOC Productions will be welcomed back to The Bristol Hippodrome with open arms. Their last show at the venue, Elf – The Musical, played to full houses for each performance and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was awarded the Rose Bowl for Best Musical.

 

Alan Menken’s opulent Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol saw the Disney legend (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors) join forces with award-winning songwriter Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical, Once on This Island) for a spectacular show that ran at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden for a whole decade.
