Cast announced for Bristol Old Vic’s festive production of Arabian Nights

Prepare to be enchanted with this year’s blockbuster Christmas show at Bristol Old Vic, featuring a daring heroine, captivating songs, and a timeless tale of hope and wonder.

 

Arabian Nights runs at Bristol Old Vic from Thursday 23 November to Saturday 6 January 2024.

 

From critically acclaimed writer Sonali Bhattacharyya (Chasing Hares, Young Vic) and director Blanche McIntyre (All’s Well That Ends Well, RSC) comes one of the world’s most legendary tales in Arabian Nights, adapted for modern times.

Schere has the quickest wits, the greatest courage and the most wonderful stories. Now, she is planning to liberate every young woman in the Kingdom from the tyranny of the evil and greedy king through the power of stories. But can she really do it alone? And is the first person she has to turn to really her annoying little sister?

 

As the sisters’ mission grows more and more complicated, they turn to the Kingdom’s populace to join their cause. Together, they overcome old grudges and petty disputes to find their collective voice. Together, they light up the kingdom with magic, excitement, unity and hope this festive season.

 

The cast for this seasonal spectacular includes Saikat Ahamed (Life of Pi at Wyndhams Theatre, Peter Pan at National Theatre) as Maruf, Ajjaz Awad as Gulab/Umm, Sara Diab as Dina, Roxy Faridany as Maryam, Nicholas Karimi as The King, Patrick Osborne as Jafar, Yasemin Özdemir as Schere and Arinder Sadhra as Rahiq/Zara.

Bristol Old Vic are entering a new era with Nancy Medina’s joyous first season as Artistic Director.
