Prepare for the Big Scream with Forbidden Worlds Film Festival next monthPosted on: 11 Sep 2023
Bristol’s biggest repertory genre film festival is back once again with a chilling programme of ‘popcorn horrors’ to wow Bristolian movie lovers this spooky season.
Forbidden World Film Festival’s The Big Scream runs on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 October 2023.
October’s The Big Scream is a smaller version of the headline festival, focusing purely on horror movies that many attendees would have grown up renting from video shops or watched on TV – now they’ll be able to enjoy these flicks on a massive 18m x 15m screen!
Day tickets and two-day festival passes are available to purchase now from the Forbidden Worlds website.

This year’s Big Scream event has something for everyone (with a stomach for horror) and attendees can expect everything from a demon car to a killer tree, giant bugs to alien invaders – oh, and plenty of spiders!
Screening over two triple bill nights, the lineup opens (on Friday 13 !!!) with Night of the Creeps, a loving homage to the 1950s B-Movie from Fred Dekker. Up next is the director’s cut of Guillermo del Toro’s first Hollywood effort, Mimic – an American monster movie with the Mexican director’s unique style.
While The Exorcist may have been the obvious choice, Forbidden Worlds likes to do things a little differently with the first night of the festival rounded off with William Friedkin’s The Guardian, an often overlooked, yet massively entertaining slice of horror hokum.
Saturday’s screenings kick off with the Steven Spielberg-produced Arachnophobia, a spider infested movie that many fans rank among the scariest horrors despite its PG rating. This will be followed by John Carpenter’s Christine, an adaptation of Stephen King’s bestseller, premiering a new 2k DCP ahead of a UK and Eire re-release on 20 October 2023.
The festival will be rounded off with a screening of The Hidden, a quirky, crowd-pleasing mash up of the body snatching alien trope and the classic mismatched cop buddy moving starring a fresh-faced Kyle Maclachlan pre-Twin Peaks.
