Ashton Gate will host its first ever Six Nations fixture next year

The Red Roses are returning to South Bristol in March for another exciting clash against Wales in the Women’s Six Nations next Spring.

 

England Women will play Wales Women at Ashton Gate Stadium on Saturday 30 March 2024.

 

Hosting its first ever TikTok Women’s Six Nations fixture, Ashton Gate will provide the arena for a hotly contested battle between John Mitchell’s England side and Ioan Cunningham’s Wales – a rematch of England win in BS3.

The match will represent one of two home fixtures for John Williams’ defending champions, the other being a Round 4 clash with Ireland at Twickenham. Last time England visited Bristol, in preparation for the 2022 Rugby World Cup, Wales were sent packing across the Severn Bridge with the home side recording 11 tries and Helena Roland securing a hattrick.

 

Bristol Bears player Holly Aitchison was also in the backline that night and is raring to go once again at the venue that she now calls home. Speaking about the announcement, Aitchison said: “Ashton Gate is an amazing place to play rugby and we’re all excited to be heading back there with the Red Roses.

 

“There is a great appetite for women’s rugby in the South-West, something I’ve learned even more so since moving to Bears. The fans are brilliant and always turnout in their numbers for Red Roses marches across the West Country and we have no doubt that we’ll be heavily backed once again against Wales.”

 

Jenny Hutchison (Venue Director at Ashton Gate), called the event a “blockbuster Anglo-Welsh clash in Bristol”, adding, We attracted an 11,600-strong crowd for England’s record-equalling 25th Test win over Wales the last time they visited and with the huge appetite for the women’s game in Bristol, we look forward to welcoming another huge crowd.”

 

England Women will play Wales Women at Ashton Gate Stadium on Saturday 30 March 2024.
