Lydon (better known as Johnny Rotten) formed Public Image Ltd in 1978 following the tumultuous break up of punk poster boys, The Sex Pistols. Rotten’s new band quickly became a force to be reckoned with, constantly shifting sonically with radical new ideas.

Known by their fanbase as PiL, the group have covered everything from bass heavy post punk on their debut album Public Image: First Issue in 1978, a blend of krautrock and dub on 1979’s Metal Box, muscular rock on Album in 1986 and groovy pop on 1989’s 9.

On the band’s latest effort, End of World, Lydon once more goes against the grain, baring his soul in a love letter to his late wife Nora one minute and spitting and snarling at the world’s ‘Liars, Fakes, Cheats, and Frauds’ the next.

Speaking about the album in his typically spikey manner, Lydon has said: “I seem to really thrive and get better and better with the more insults laid on my lap. People flash around titles, call me a great British icon – it just sounds so rude!”

He continues: “what I can say is that I’m maybe not the world’s best singer. But I’m possibly the world’s best storyteller – except they’re not stories. And I can happily tell you that the best song I’ve ever written? I haven’t written it yet.”

In addition to Bristol, the UK leg of PiL’s upcoming tour will see them play venues in Sheffield, Leeds (sold out), Swansea, Margate, Lincoln, Blackburn, Buckley, Sunderland (sold out), Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Manchester, Holmfirth (sold out), Coventry, Brighton (sold out), Bristol, Torquay (sold out) and London.
