Renowned Sri Lankan restaurant announces return of 'Power Out' charity night

Posted on: 06 Jun 2023

The Coconut Tree (TCT), the renowned Sri Lankan restaurant group, has announced the return of its fundraising event, 'Power Out Night,’ on June 8th.

Following the incredible success of the first Power Out event held in March, where The Coconut Tree raised over £1,500 for charity, the restaurant group is once again stepping up to support the Meth Mihira Special Education Centre.

Located in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, this exceptional facility provides care and education for children with special needs. TCT will donate 10% of the evening's takings to help the centre manage through the power outages and sustain its day-to-day operations, which rely solely on donations.

Power outages have been a part of life for the people of Sri Lanka, the birthplace of the five TCT founders, for as long as they can remember. These blackouts have a significant impact on their daily lives and the lives of their families.

Rashintha Rodrigo, one of the TCT founders, said "We were blown away by the support and enthusiasm we received during our first Power Out Night earlier this year. It's truly heartwarming to see our customers come together to enjoy a memorable dining experience while making a positive difference in the lives of the children at the Meth Mihira Special Education Centre."

During Power Out Night, guests will have the opportunity to savor the delectable array of dishes from The Coconut Tree's menu in a candlelit ambiance, as the lights are dimmed and soft music fills the air. To add to the excitement, the beloved TCT Hopper Stations will make a comeback, allowing guests to try their hand at creating their own traditional bowl-shaped coconut milk pancakes.

Don't miss this special evening that combines great food, a cozy atmosphere, and the chance to support a worthy cause. Join The Coconut Tree on June 8th for Power Out Night and be part of a remarkable initiative that brings joy to your taste buds and makes a lasting impact on the lives of children in need.
