Legendary punk band to perform in Bristol as part of 50th anniversary tour

The Stranglers, one of the most iconic and influential bands in the history of British music, are celebrating half a decade at the forefront of alternative music with a tour of the UK and Ireland.

 

The Stranglers will play Bristol Beacon’s Beacon Hall on Monday 25 March 2024.

 

Since playing their final full-scale UK tour last year, the veteran band have turned their minds to how they would like to celebrate their 50th anniversary with their fanbase and they’ve decided to head out on a short string of shows visiting a select few special and iconic venues to mark their golden anniversary.

Veterans of the UK music scene, The Stranglers originally rose to prominence as part of the punk explosion in 1977, however, there was always something that set the Guildford band apart from their contemporaries.

 

Having already been together for a long time, The Stranglers’ work differed significantly from the fast, aggressive guitar-based music of The Damned, The Sex Pistols and The Clash. Instead, their sound held more in common with 60s garage punk, adding their darkness and psychedelic keyboard tones.

 

Rather than outwardly expressing their politics, the band’s lyricism focused on uncanny tales of sex, relationships and bad behaviour. Over time, their sound matured, and the product: pop-oriented tracks that still maintained the darkness of their previous work, allowing hit singles ‘Duchess’, ‘Only The Sun’ and ‘Golden Brown’ to make a lasting impact on UK music.

 

In addition to Bristol, The Stranglers 2024 UK and Ireland tour will see them visit a selection of special venues in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Newcastle, Manchester, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Cambridge, Sheffield, Portsmouth and London. Find out more on the band’s website.
