A spectacular celebration of The Carpenters’ songbook is coming to town

The Carpenters Story, which comes to Bristol in May, will take music lovers on a musical journey through the glittering career of pop’s most celebrated brother and sister duo.

 

The Carpenters Story is coming to The Bristol Hippodrome on Thursday 11 May 2023.

 

A highly acclaimed production that has captivated audiences all over the UK, The Carpenters Story is returning to Bristol this Spring for a spectacular celebration of The Carpenters’ classic back catalogue which made them legends in the world of popular music, selling over 100 million albums and singles.

Known for their beautiful melodies and carefully constructed arrangements, The Carpenters (Richard and Karen Carpenter) are one of the most celebrated acts of the 1970s, providing a cleaner, more melodic alternative to the exuberance of their rock and pop contemporaries.

 

One of the period’s most decorated bands of the period, the two-piece won a total of four Grammys and achieved twelve Top Ten hits and three Number One singles, most notably the classic ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’. Thanks to Karen’s pretty vocals and Richard’s precise arrangements, the Californian outfit’s impressive roster of songs endures to this day.

 

The Carpenters Story will see these songs brought to life thanks to the outstanding vocal talents of Claire Furley as Karen Carpenter and Musical Director Phil Aldridge who will lead a full band in re-creating Richard’s original orchestral arrangements.

 

This celebrated production will feature all of The Carpenters’ hit songs, including ‘‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’, ‘Top of the World’, ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’, ‘Rainy Days & Mondays’, ‘Goodbye to Love’ and many, many more.
