Today marks 60 years since The Beatles’ first Bristol concert and they’re back, kind of

The Beatles played their first-ever Bristol gig at Colston Hall on 15 March 1963 and, in December, a tribute act described by The Daily Telegraph as “less a tribute more a reincarnation” will play on the same site.

The Bootleg Beatles will play at Bristol Beacon on Monday 18 December.

Earlier today BBC Radio Bristol put out a tweet (which can be seen below) to commemorate the historic event. The Fab Four weren’t even supposed to headline the show and only did so after “Beatlemania” began to grip the UK with a set list that included mega-hits such as ‘Love Me Do’, ‘Please Please Me’ and many more.

Perhaps the most accurate interpreters of John, Paul, George and Ringo’s music that you’ll find anywhere in the world, The Bootleg Beatles have amassed an extraordinary level of critical acclaim from their inception and first tiny gig in Devon back in 1980.

Since then, the group have become nothing short of globally renowned music stars having supported a range of high-profile artists including Simple Minds, Oasis, David Bowie, Tom Jones and Rod Stewart.

They have also performed several times at the venue on the top of every performer's gig wish list, the prestigious Glastonbury, been on the cover of NME, sold out stadiums all over the world and even played for the late Queen.

With an impressively faithful rendition of The Beatles' legendary songbook, Bristolian music fans can expect the likes of Hey Jude, Yesterday, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields Forever, I Am The Walrus, All You Need Is Love, and many more besides when The Bootleg Beatles come to town.

With a little help from their much-loved orchestra, the familiar tunes are backed up by a magical multi-media show with genuine 60s instruments, authentic costumes and plenty more besides in a must-see show for Beatles fanatics of all ages.
