Wicked producers announce experienced lead for 2024 Bristol run

One of the most successful musicals of all time, Wicked will fly into Bristol next year with a top-quality cast led by former West End ‘Elphaba’, Laura Pick. 

 

Wicked will be performed at The Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 23 January to Sunday 25 February 2024.

 

Over the years, West End and Broadway musical phenomenon Wicked has been seen by over 60 million theatre lovers worldwide and won over 100 major international awards.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s celebrated novel, smash hit sensation Wicked depicts the beguiling backstory of beloved characters that inhabited Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. 

 

This extraordinary tale reveals the magic that shaped the destiny of one of fiction’s most unlikely pairings on their remarkable journey to becoming Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

 

Flying into Bristol in January next year, Wicked will be backed by a production team of over 100 people – fronted by a star-studded cast. Taking up the role of Elphaba is Laura Pick; a previous standby for the role, she has gone on to play Elphaba in over 350 shows to widespread acclaim.

 

Speaking about the upcoming tour of Wicked, Pick says: “I’m thrilled to be leading the UK & Ireland tour cast of Wicked and to be given the opportunity to continue my journey in the unique and extraordinary role of Elphaba, which first began for me in the West End in 2017.

“Wicked has been a life and career-changing show for me and I am very proud to be part of the cast bringing this incredible musical to audiences in Bristol.” 

 

Further casting will be announced imminently. The musical features a songbook by multi-Oscar and Grammy award winner Stephen Schwartz (The Prince of Egypt, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Enchanted). 

 

Schwartz and Winnie Holzman are currently collaborating on a two-part film adaptation of Wicked directed by Jon M. Chu and starring the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande and Jeff Goldblum.
