Circa Waves formed in May 2013 when frontman Kieran Shudall wrote a batch of songs and took them to guitarist Joe Falconer, bassist Sam Rourke and drummer Sian Plummer (later replaced by Colin Jones).
Their melodic, catchy rock songs drew inspiration from prominent bands such as The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys as well as contemporaries The Vaccines. A string of shows across the country saw the band gain a high-profile record deal and they haven’t looked back since.
Debut single ‘Get Away’ proved an instant success and their first album, Young Chasers, soon followed. Thanks to indie hits like ‘T-Shirt Weather’, the album perforated the UK Top Ten and a sell-out tour soon followed. The band’s sophomore effort, 2017’s Different Creatures, also charted highly, reaching number 11 in the charts.
Thanks to these successes, the Liverpudlian outfit have established themselves as indie staples, playing massive festivals including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds and Summer Sonic Festival (Japan) as well as supporting the likes of The 1975 and The Libertines over the years.
As well as O2 Academy Bristol, Circa Waves’ upcoming UK tour will see them visit venues in Oxford, Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Newcastle, London and Wolverhampton. Head to the band website for more information
Support comes from art punk four-piece Courting - also from Liverpool - who’s debut album, Guitar Music, was released this year to critical acclaim.
Circa Waves will play Bristol on Tuesday 24 January, tickets for the show can be found here.
