A jukebox musical for the whole family, Jersey Boys is based around the music of 1960s rock’n’roll group The Four Seasons – fronted by international superstar Frankie Valli.
Tommy DeVito, Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Frankie Valli were just four ordinary guys from Jersey until they sang their very first note. As The Four Seasons, they quickly developed an original sound thanks to their blend of Italian American doo-wop and rhythm and blues as well as, of course, Valli’s powerful falsetto.
Taking to the stage in 2004, Jersey Boys takes on a documentary approach to their story. The band’s musical output is split into four ‘Seasons’, with each of the band members giving their own account of a tumultuous musical career.
Legendary hits including ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)’ and ‘Sherry’ all feature in this much-loved musical. Over the years, Jersey Boys has won high-profile awards such as the Tony Award for Best Musical, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
Jersey Boys is appearing in Bristol next week as part of a UK tour that began back in November. The production will then go on to run at Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Sheffield, Wolverhampton, Northampton, Southend, Cardiff and Leicester. More information can be found here.
