With an immensely successful production history in Bristol, the adored Disney classic will be roaring back into the city's largest theatre venue next summer.

 

The internationally acclaimed stage adaptation of Disney's The Lion King will be at Bristol Hippodrome between Thursday 18 May and Saturday 1 July 2023.

 

The Walt Disney Company UK and Ireland and Bristol Hippodrome have today announced that The Lion King will be returning to Bristol Hippodrome for an unprecedented third time after opening at the venue to critical acclaim in 2019 and returning for a sold-out run in March this year.

 

Priority tickets for next year's 6-week run will be available from 11 AM on Tuesday 22 November before the general sale begins at 10 AM on Friday 25.

The world-renowned story is brought to life in this stunning theatre production using spectacular masks, puppets and costumes to tell the tale of Simba's epic adventures, as he struggles with the responsibilities of adulthood, loss and becoming king.

 

Julie Taymor’s stage adaptation of The Lion King opened on Broadway in 1997 and 25 global productions in nine different languages have been created since then. The show is the sixth longest-running West End musical of all time and the previous tour broke attendance records across the country

 

This daring and inspiring reinvention of one of the most successful animated feature films of all time relies heavily on the stunning artistry created by a massive design team drawing on diverse cultural influences to recreate the rich colours and vast expanses of the African Savanna.

Director Julie Taymor is one of the world's most innovative directors, bringing extensive experience in staging epic theatre and opera productions to the Lion King team.

 

It was the first musical she directed in commercial theatre and the pairing led to Broadway history when Taymor became the first woman to win a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical.

 

When Disney's The Lion King rolls back into Bristol next summer, fans can expect a musical roster chock full of musical hits. The original score of the legendary animated film has been expanded with Elton John and Tim Rice adding 3 new numbers to the original award-winning score and South African composer Lebo M also adding his own sonic fingerprint.

The musical returns to Bristol Hippodrome between Thursday 18 May and Saturday 1 July 2023, with priority sale available from 11 AM on Tuesday 22 November before the general tickets go on sale at 10 AM on Friday 25 November. Grab your tickets HERE.
