This week, an award-winning collaborative experiment in theatrical realism and contemporary dance featuring the music of ABBA and Bach is coming to BS1.

Beginning Friday 16 and running until Saturday 17 September, ‘Civilisation’ – about the things we’ve lost and built – will be at harbourside favourite, Arnolfini.

‘Civilisation’ is presented by esteemed Bristol-based production company, MAYK. Established in 2011, the theatre group aims to create memorable experiences that are accessible to lots of people.

Valuing ‘collaboration, representation, joy, kindness and mischief’, MAYK are on a mission to ‘make important, unexpected, revelatory work with visionary artists that changes our experience of the world and each other.’

This production – following a day in the life of a woman reeling from a tragic event - is a sideways look at the untheatrical reality of loss, with music from Swedish pop giants ABBA and German composer Bach.

‘Civilisation’ is a collaborative effort between theatre director and artist Jaz Woodcock-Stewart and multi-faceted choreographer Morgann Runacre-Temple. The former recently won Jury Prize for ‘Civilisation’ at Fast Forward Festival.

Two showings of this production will take place at Arnolfini this weekend, beginning at 20:00 and ending at 21:30 at both.

Tickets and more information about this one can be found via Arnolfini’s website.
