Posted on: 16 Aug 2022

Running for one week, Encounters is the leading short film, animation and virtual reality festival in the UK.

The festival will begin on Tuesday 27 September and end on Sunday 2 October.

The long-running festival aims to discover, support and develop new and upcoming talent in filmmaking by providing a platform for a diverse range of filmmakers from all over the world.

Full Festival Passes are available for £60 with Discovery Passes priced at £25. Head to the event page to secure yours.

Beginning as a one-off celebration marking the centenary of cinema, Encounters has developed into a vital space and platform for emerging and established filmmakers, becoming a unique meeting place for figures throughout the industry.

Providing an internationally renowned stage to celebrate creative talent and innovation, the lineup for this year’s celebration is yet to be announced but there is sure to be another jam-packed programme of screenings, features, special guests, Q&As and headline events as well as an intensive industry event programme and workshops.

However, the headline event of the festival is the Encounters international competition. Open for entrees internationally, the competition is one of the world’s leading competitions for short film, animation and VR.

It is also an official gateway for some of the world’s most prominent industry awards: the Academy Awards, the BAFTAs, the BIFAs and the European Film Awards.

Encounters is not only aimed at those embedded within the film industry, cinema lovers are also welcome with festival organisers aiming to celebrate the connection between audiences and the industry.

Passes for the 2022 iteration of the festival – running between Tuesday 27 September and Sunday 2 October – went on sale last week.

Festival Passes give visitors access to the full festival experience including screenings, industry events, Q&As and evening events at Lost Horizon. Full week passes are £60 and can be found on the Encounters website.

The Discovery Pass is designed for those who are short on time or not sure about what they want to see. It has all the benefits of the Festival Pass but is limited to 5 uses and costs only £25, grab yours here.
