The first edition of Cinema Rediscovered was held in 2016, taking inspiration from the renowned Italian festival, II Cinema Ritrovato - an event specializing in screening rediscovered and restored work.
Back in 2022 for a second successive year after a Covid enforced hiatus, Cinema Rediscovered offers movie-goers a truly unique opportunity to get to know lesser-known cinematic voices and to explore the legacies of hugely influential filmmakers.
Screenings this year span a multitude of genres and styles, from Joseph Kuo's revenge tale, 'The Swordsman of All Swordsmen' (1968), to cult favourite, 'Harold and Maude' (1971), and romantic classic, 'Casablanca' (1942).
Alongside these films and many more, a series of talks and Q & As with the likes of Samira Ahmed and Nina Menkes will take place, all designed to spark conversations about cinema related to the festival's central themes.
This year, these themes include 'Black Paris: Josephine and Beyond', 'Pre-Code Hollywood: Rules Are Made to be Broken', and 'Women's Stories From the Global South (And to Whom They Belong)'.
Last but by no means least, a movie-themed quiz in celebration of Watershed's 40th birthday rounds off the festival on Sunday.
All information about this event and tickets can be found on Watershed's website.
