Canadian art punk outfit Crack Cloud announce Strange Brew gig

Posted on: 08 Jul 2022

The announcement of a UK-wide tour in October comes alongside that of their upcoming third album, Earth Is One Tough Baby – set for release on Friday 16 September.

Crack Cloud will visit Bristol as part of a five-date run of UK shows this Autumn.

The dual announcement comes alongside a second sonic taste of the album in the shape of ‘Tough Baby’, an impressive single that drifts effortlessly between laid-back indie pop and frontman Zach Choy’s signature, feverish vocals.

Tickets for the Strange Brew show on Sunday 23 October are on sale now and can be purchased here.

Based in Vancouver, Crack Cloud are more than just a band. The core seven-strong band are surrounded by a multimedia collective of various artists, filmmakers, musicians and designers who combine to deliver striking visuals alongside striking music.

Crack Cloud were originally formed by frontman and drummer Choy and keyboard player Mohammed Ali Sharar as an outlet to distract them from and deal with their spiralling drug habits.

This quickly led them to others who were struggling with similar drug-related issues as well as mental health care workers. The collective became a vastly important project, creating a channel for self-betterment and collectivism.

Among the new additions were guitarist Jon Varley and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Robertson who - despite the band’s nebulous lineup – have become the core of Crack Cloud, along with Choy and Ali Sharar.

To date, Crack Cloud have released three studio albums. The first, Crack Cloud (2018), was a collation of the band’s first two EPs and proved to be a real statement of intent with seven of the group’s twenty members dedicating themselves to a seemingly never-ending amount of touring.

2020’s Pain Olympics truly proved the band’s credentials as one of modern punk’s most vital artists, demonstrating an expanded, more complex sound and production technique.

Their third album, Earth Is One Tough Baby (the cover of which is pictured below), is set to be released later this year and if the record’s two singles, ‘Please Yourself’ and ‘Tough Baby’, are anything to go by then Crack Cloud are developing their sound yet further – pushing themselves into new musical plains in the process.

The band are playing a slew of UK shows this year, heading to Edinburgh, Cardiff, Guildford and Cambridge throughout July before visiting venues in London, Salford, Bristol, Leeds and Brighton as part of their October tour. Tickets can be found on the band's Bandcamp page.

Crack Cloud will play at Strange Brew on Sunday 23 October, tickets are available now and can be purchased here.
