Tickets are on sale for St Pauls Carnival's Back A Yard series
Posted on: 26 May 2022Organisers have put together a series of community-focused events in the absence of this year's Carnival.
Tickets have officially gone on sale for St Pauls Carnival's new community events programme, Back A Yard, taking place across small venues in and around St Pauls during June and July.
Having been forced to cancel the much-loved carnival in 2020 and 2021 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, organisers announced in February that they would be postponing the full event once again this year.
In its absence, the team have unveiled a series of food, drink, arts and educational events for the local community, celebrating the key elements of the carnival itself.

We're hyped to reveal the full programme for this year's Carnival events, Back A Yard.
We're keeping it local with 4 events dedicated to the amazing St Pauls community that has kept Carnival alive and thriving for 54 years.

Back A Yard will open at the Kuumba Centre with the latest edition of St Pauls Carnival's Windrush Library on 22 June, an opportunity for locals to discuss the experiences of those impacted by Windrush, share stories and connect with fellow residents.
The community will then be invited to come together once more for a Community Picnic at Portland Square on 25 June, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Jamaican independence.
Two events taking place on 2 July as part of Back A Yard will see Malcolm X Community Centre host an Elders Brunch in celebration of the St Pauls community, while BS2 venue Lost Horizon will be the setting for a vibrant day-and-night party running from 13:00 through to 02:00.

Speaking at an open event in March, the St Pauls Carnival CIC pointed to a combination of factors leading to the cancellation of this year's Carnival, noting ongoing uncertainty regarding public health advice, concerns from sponsors and a broader lack of funding.
As a result, the team has been forced to scale back the 2022 programme, with Back A Yard taking place as part of a summer-long programme of community-led events.
More details on Back A Yard, including a full musical lineup for the closing party at Lost Horizon, are expected to be revealed soon.
To secure your tickets for any of the events listed above, or to follow news and updates from the organisers, head to the St Pauls Carnival website or follow them on Twitter.
