Bristol promoter 1% of One’s biggest gigs of 2022 | Staff Picks

The Bristol-based team have, as always, a stacked schedule of regular shows coming up throughout the year, featuring artists from all over the UK and beyond.

 

One of the South West’s key gig bookers 1% of One have organised more than 15 events in some of the city’s best-loved venues over the course of this year.

 

With a diverse range of artists including Pet Shimmers, The Dears and Yard Act all booked to play throughout the year (and plenty more yet to be announced), the coming months look like they’re going to be packed with breathtaking live shows.

 

There are plenty of barnstorming shows coming up, and with that in mind, we've put together a quick guide to 1% of One's biggest and best gigs on the way in 2022.

Surfbort @ Strange Brew | Tuesday 24 May 

 

Kicking off our highlights list is New York punk rockers Surfbort. The band rose to prominence in part due to them being featured on a Gucci campaign and counting prominent acts such as Blondie and Interpol (who they just finished a tour with) among their fans.

 

Support for this show comes from doom-punk group Witch Fever.

Jemima Coulter @ The Crofters Rights | Friday 3 June

 

Multi-hyphenate artist Jemima Coulter begins 1% of One’s June programme with her unique brand of otherworldly music and poignant storytelling.

 

The Bristol-based artist has recently announced her debut album, Grace After a Party, and will welcome electronic artist Bonsi and bedroom project Soft Den as support for this one.

1%: Off Grid @ Strange Brew | Saturday 11 June

 

Perhaps the key event on this list, 1% of One’s all-dayer (Off Grid) sees an arts and crafts fayre take place throughout the day before live music takes over Strange Brew from 15:00 onwards.

 

Live music comes from New York grunge band Pom Pom Squad, South London country-pop project Golden Dregs (pictured below), Bristol’s favourite supergroup Pet Shimmers and folk artists Clara Mann and Frances Pylons.

Pet Shimmers @ Dareshack | Wednesday 15 June

 

As well as Off Grid, Pet Shimmers will be playing a Bristol headline show in June. The six-piece, whose first two albums Trash Earthers and Face Down in Meta were released in 2020, have recently returned with their first material since the pandemic.

 

The group are made up of solo artist Oliver Wilde, Robbie & Mona’s William Carkeet, ex-Happyness frontman Jonny Allan, and Louisiana chief Mig Schillace among others. Support comes from local indie pop group Hamburger.

Dana Gavanski @ Rough Trade Bristol | Friday 9 September

 

The Canadian-Serbian singer-songwriter - who is based in London and has just released her second album When It Comes - will be returning to Bristol in September, having recently played an intimate gig at Bedminster’s Friendly Records.

Willy Mason @ Exchange | Tuesday 13 September

 

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Willy Mason will be heading to Exchange in September. Breaking into the public eye at the age of only 19, the New York artist will be presenting Bristol music fans with his emotional brand of bluesy folk.

The Dears @ Exchange | Thursday 6 October

 

Originally scheduled for 2021, indie rock band The Dears - led by the husband-and-wife duo of Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak – will be in Bristol this October. Boasting a stellar and long-lasting career, this is sure to prove a popular show.

Naima Bock @ The Cube | Wednesday 12 October

 

Next up is Naima Bock. After co-founding Goat Girl at just 15, Bock left the band after their debut record to pursue a solo career. Her early releases have proved to be a beautiful blend of intricate folk music and art-pop.

Porridge Radio @ Trinity Centre | Tuesday 25 October

 

Having recently released the critically acclaimed Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky, the follow up to their 2021 debut Every Bad, Porridge Radio are heading on the road later this year.

 

The Mercury-nominated four-piece have garnered a cult following in recent times with their captivatingly charming mix of laid back indie pop and post punk.

The Bug Club @ Exchange | Wednesday 2 November

 

Formed in 2016, The Bug Club are a tight-knit three-piece with a penchant for two-minute songs reminiscent of Jonathan Richman mixed with the Nuggets compilation. 

 

November sees the band return to Bristol for the third time in 2022 after playing a headline show in May and a support slot with The Lovely Eggs in June.

Lime Garden @ The Crofters Rights | Thursday 17 November

 

Brighton buzz band Lime Garden have carved a name for themselves over the past two years as one of indie music’s most promising groups. With a genre-bending approach to their craft that moves freely between indie pop and rock, the four-piece have released a slew of increasingly popular singles.

Yard Act @ Marble Factory | Saturday 26 November

 

One of the most popular current UK acts, Yard Act round off our list of 1% of One’s upcoming shows with their November headline show at Marble Factory. With frontman James Smith’s witty, observational lyricism and the band’s groovy post-punk sound, the band are truly at the top of their game.

 

Their critically acclaimed debut album, The Overload, proved to be the fastest selling debut on vinyl of any band this century and their charismatic live shows have attracted fans all over the UK and beyond
