5-a-side football in Bristol | 5 of the best locations

Thinking of taking to the pitch yourself now the professional football season is drawing to a close? Browse our handy guide to the city's most popular pitches.

 

Whether you’re a Gashead or a Robin, located in North, South or Central Bristol, there are plenty of football pitches dotted around the city, and a handful of competitive 5-a-side leagues to choose from.

 

However, a team can be difficult to organise when you’re not sure exactly where these pitches are located, how much they cost, how individual leagues operate and how to book a slot or register a new team.

 

With this in mind, we’ve taken a look at some of Bristol’s best spots for 5-a-side football - they may not be quite as spectacular as this pitch on the side of an oil rig, but they'll certainly do the trick for a midweek kickabout...

 

 

Goals Bristol South & Goals Bristol North

Broomhill Road, Brislington, Bristol BS4 5RG

Wise Campus, New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34 8LP

 

The Goals sites are the perfect places to bring together a group of mates for a kick-about (whether it's an informal one-off or organised league fixture) and both sites have 12 5-a-side pitches on offer.

 

With all-new synthetic turf, the sites not only provide football fans with bookable pitches but also run several organised leagues - Sunday League, Monday 7’s League, Monday 5’s Leagues and Wednesday 5-a-side, Friday Night Juniors and Friday Women’s League.

 

Hour-long sessions are available to book between 10:00 and 20:00 with prices ranging from £35 to £64. Function rooms are also available to hire and both spaces offer a bar, café, live sports and free wifi.

Windmill Hill Sports Pitch

Philip Street, Bedminster, Bristol BS3 4EA

 

Perhaps the best kept secret on this list, the shock-absorbing 3G pitch is nestled neatly within the 4.5-acre farm in Bedminster. 

 

Open from Monday to Friday, the site offers competitive prices at £20 per hour from 9:00 – 17:00 (pay as you go only) and £33 from 17:00 -21:00 for pay as you go (or £29 via regular booking).

 

There are two options for hiring the pitch (that can be used for a variety of sports): prospective players can pay as they go via the bookings calendar while regular bookings can be secured for a monthly fee of £116 by standing order.

 

Windmill Hill City Farm also offers the farm and gardens, a café and a farm shop.

WePlay Football Horfield

Horfield Leisure Centre, Dorian Road, Horfield, Bristol BS7 0XW

 

Situated at Horfield Leisure Centre and offering premium football, parties and events hire, WePlay is one of the country’s leading 5-a-side football organisers. 

 

The site boasts 3 5-a-side 3G pitches, changing rooms and free parking and runs men’s and women’s FA affiliated leagues on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 19:00 – 21:00. League members can access latest tables and fixtures on the ‘players’ lounge’ section of the website.

 

Head to the WePlay Football Horfield website to enquire about joining a league. There is also a WePlay Football centre in St Pauls that offers 2 6-a-side pitches.

Fives Soccer Centre

South Bristol Sports Centre, West Town Lane, Bristol BS14 9EA

 

These award-winning facilities located in South Bristol, provide pitches to hire for one-off occasions or regularly as well as hosting a regular 5-a-side league that’s been running since 2016.

 

Indeed, Fives Soccer League is one of Bristol’s best value leagues at £35 per team per match. Organisers also offer a free game, round of drinks and post-match meal on joining the league.

 

Benefits of joining the league include game highlights on the website and in the bar, matchday selection, kick-off times from 18:45 – 21:00, FA standard referees, fixtures and results available online, free parking and a bar showing live sport available to all. 

 

Booking is available via a form on the website.

 

5-a-side courts are also available for one-off hire at £37.50 per hour with changing and shower facilities provided. Head to the sports centre website to book your slot now.

UWE Bristol Hillside Gardens

Filton Road, Winterbourne, Bristol BS16 1QQ

 

Situated at UWE’s multi-sports facility at Hillside Gardens, located adjacent to the M32 and minutes from the Frenchay Campus. 

 

Part of the university’s award-winning sports centre, facilities include 2 floodlit artificial pitches, a separate warm-up area, undercover seating, changing rooms and parking.

 

UWE has both all-weather astroturf and grass pitches available to hire. Prices between students and the local community with one hour on half of the all-weather astroturf costing £40 for students/staff and £55 for the community.
