Pet Shimmers return with new single ‘Sonder’, confirm Bristol live date

Posted on: 21 Apr 2022

The band’s latest track is the first of two singles set for release on legendary label, Brokers Tip.

Bristol favourites Pet Shimmers yesterday released ‘Sonder’, their first track since 2020, as well as two summer shows - a hometown set followed by an appearance at The Windmill in London.

‘Sonder’ is paired with a music video, out now on Youtube, and Pet Shimmers will play Bristol’s Dareshack on June 15.

The single is available now on all streaming platforms and tickets for the Bristol show can be found on the event page.

Formed in 2019 and featuring an ever-changing, diverse cast of talented musicians from Bristol and further afield, Pet Shimmers have quickly established themselves as one of the UK DIY scene’s best-kept secrets.

Lauded by prominent music blog Stereogum, and championed by the likes of Wet Leg, Porridge Radio and tour mates Alex G, the band burst onto the scene with a debut show broadcast live on BBC 6 Music in 2020.

The group have released two albums to date, both released in 2020. Face Down in Meta’s melodious brand of abstract psychedelia was well received by the alternative music community.

Pet Shimmer’s second release of the same year, Trash Earthers, was met with more critical acclaim thanks to its complicated and dexterous sound making for a futuristic construction that traverses the plains of lo-fi indie and fuzzy synth-pop.

Now, after a period out of the spotlight, the band are back with a new song – ‘Sonder’ - and a new member to boot.

Katy J Pearson collaborator Oliver Wilde; Robbie & Mona’s William Carkeet; ex-Portishead drummer and Louisiana chief Mig Schillace, Lexie Jennings and Rich Clarke are joined by Jonny Allen – ex-frontman of cult indie heroes Happyness.

On their latest single, the fuzziness and complex progression of previous releases continues, however, there is a pop trope to the track that is akin to that of Happyness’ Weird Little Birthday.

‘Sonder’ is the first of a double release, set to be put out on Bob Nastanovich’s Brokers Tip label with 7” records available to pre-order now. Head to the band’s Bandcamp page to find out more.

In addition to the release, Pet Shimmers have announced two summer shows. The band will play Dareshack in Bristol on June 15 and The Windmill, Brixton the next day. Tickets for the Bristol gig can be purchased here.

Dareshack is a local multi-purpose venue just around the corner from Castle Park and St. Nick’s Market, head to the space’s website now to find out what’s coming up.
