Bristol International Balloon Fiesta to return this summer, organisers confirm

Posted on: 11 Apr 2022

The much-loved attraction is celebrating its 44th birthday in 2022.

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will be making a comeback this year, with organisers confirming plans to go ahead with a full weekend programme at Ashton Court Estate from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 August.

The return of Europe's largest annual ballooning event will see more than 100 hot air balloons of all shapes and sizes take to the skies over Bristol, taking off at dusk and dawn.

After last year's Balloon Fiesta was reshaped due to lingering coronavirus restrictions, locals and visitors alike are invited to take in one of Bristol's best-loved festivals in all its glory this summer - find out more and book your car parking tickets here.

Announcing news of the festival's return last week, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta founder and Chairman, Don Cameron, said:

“After a difficult two years for our communities and of course many of our balloonists, we are delighted to be bringing the fiesta back home to Ashton Court.

“We are hoping for sunny skies and light winds as many new balloons will take to the skies, alongside some old favourites from the UK and lots of international destinations.

“We’re proud to be able to continue putting on a show for Bristol and helping put the city on the map as a ballooning capital.”

The Balloon Fiesta is once again expected to attract thousands of visitors to Ashton Court, and plans are underway to make this year one to remember for spectators, with family entertainment, aerial displays, fairground rides, food stalls and much more included in the 2022 programme.

On the opening and closing nights, the Fiesta's famous nightglows will return, which will see balloons light up in flight, in time to a soundtrack provided by BBC Radio Bristol.

The hugely popular community flights will also be returning this time around, allowing Bristolians to nominate locations for pre-fiesta balloon flights from their local parks, school grounds and open spaces.
