2020 was a monumental year for the singer with the release of her debut album, Return, being met with a great deal of critical acclaim. Quickly, Pearson ascended from a local one to watch to indie stardom.
It’s been a whirlwind year or so for the 26-year-old that’s seen her sell out venues up and down the country as well as supporting the likes of Cass McCombs, with slots with BC Camplight and First Aid Kit (for Bristol Sounds 2022) still to come.
Building on this immense success, Katy J Pearson has today announced that her sophomore record, Sound Of The Morning, will be released this July.
Released on indie heavyweight label Heavenly Records and co-produced by Speedy Wunderground’s legendary gaffer Dan Carey (Fontaines D.C., Squid, Grimes, Black Midi, Kae Tempest etc), it looks like the perfect cocktail for something special.
The record sees Pearson exploring new sonic plains, pushing herself both musically and lyrically. While still containing the singer’s signature threads of country and folk, Sound of The Morning signals a new chapter – dabbling in darker themes, krautrock, and 'The Wicker Man'.
After beginning in Bristol, Pearson and her band will visit venues in Falmouth, Exeter, Southampton, Brighton, Margate, London, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Oxford.
Tickets for all these gigs – including Trinity Centre on 8 September – go on sale on April 4. For more information about what’s coming up at the venue, head to the Trinity website.
