The event, celebrating the intricacies of Rego's folk-inspired etchings, is taking place as part of the Arnolini’s ‘Paula Rego: Subversive Stories’ exhibition.

The Arnolfini is set to host a talk about the stunning work of renowned Portuguese-British artist, Paula Rego, discussing the role of printmaking within her work.

Doctor Carinna Parraman of UWE Bristol will host the event on 7 April with artist and professor Paul Coldwell as the two discuss Rego’s artistic approach and creativity.

Tickets for the conversation are £5.45 and can be booked on the Arnolfini website.

Parraman, Professor of Design and Innovation: Colour and Print and Director of the Centre for Print Research at UWE Bristol, will be in conversation with Coldwell, an artist, and Professor of Fine Art Printmaking at University of the Arts London.

In this talk, the two experts will look at the overarching themes of Rego’s prints; including her use of colour and how this relates to graphic traditions. The event is part of a collaborative series set up by Arnolfini, The School of Art & Design and Centre for Fine Print Research at UWE entitled ‘Art of the Maker’.

Paula Rego is a Portuguese-British artist known best for her storybook-inspired prints and paintings.

Her immense catalogue of work is often at once abstract and tangible, meshing folk tales with themes of feminism, offering us a unique vision of the female experience - traversing difficult themes such as rape and abortion along the way.

The ‘Art of the Maker’ talk will take place alongside the ‘Paula Rego: Subversive Stories’ exhibition – running at the gallery throughout February and March.

Returning to Bristol after almost 40 years, the exhibition gives visitors the chance to delve into the artist’s rich and imaginative world.

Featuring more than 80 prints, witness Rego’s stunningly dark humour and remarkable use of well-known folk tales to explore politics surrounding feminism and the treatment of women. ‘Paula Rego: Subversive Stories’ is running until Sunday 29 May and is free entry.

Tickets for the ‘Art of the Maker: Paula Rego’s Printmaking’ talk on Thursday 7 April can be found on the gallery website along with a comprehensive list of what's coming up at the Arnolfini.
