The World Reimagined has issued an open call to UK based artists

Posted on: 12 Jan 2022

Artists from across the UK are being asked to bring their perspective, talent and creativity to a design that will be the centrepiece of an exhibition in a major city.

The World Reimagined has issued a call out for UK-based artists working in the mediums of paint, photography, drawing, mosaic, sculpture, and collage to design one of 10 fiberglass globe sculptures being installed in eight different cities.

Artists should create designs that respond to The World Reimagined's Journey of Discovery - nine themes aimed at illuminating people's understanding of our shared history and inspiring a national conversation.

The open call is FREE to enter and all commissions will be PAID. All designs must be submitted by 17:00 on Monday 31 January 2022. Click here for more information.

The World Reimagined's Journey of Discovery is comprised of nine themes designed to reimagine our past, present, and future. One such theme is 'Mother Africa', which explores the richness and reality of Africa before the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Another is Stolen Legacy: The Rebirth of a Nation, which examines how Britain was transformed by the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the free labour of enslaved people.

'Still We Rise' recognises and honours enslaved people and their descendants who broke new ground and resisted oppression through sharing well-known and celebrated legacies and events, also shedding light on untold stories.

Other themes include: 'The Reality of Being Enslaved', 'A Complex Traingle', and 'Echoes In The Present'. Click here to find a full list of themes with descriptions.

Final decisions on commissions will be taken by The World Reimagined's Open Call Jury between February and March 2022, after which commissioned artists will complete their designs before the globes are displayed between August and October 2022.

Selected designs and their respective globes will sit alongside the work of invited established artists; collaborations between artists and communities; and collaborations between artists.

Those commissioned will be awarded £1500 on completion of their globe, and £150 beforehand to purchase materials. Head to The World Reimagined's website to find more information and details on how to apply.
