Grunge band, Wych Elm, are playing a headline show at The Louisiana in December

The Bristol favourites have recently released their second EP, Rabbit Wench and are firmly establishing themselves as a staple of the alternative scene.

Indie band, Wych Elm will headline Bristol’s The Louisiana on 18 December 2021 as part of a string of gigs in the wake of their recent album.

Tickets for the show are £9.90 can be found on The Louisiana website.

Wych Elm broke onto the scene originally when their 2017 single, ‘School Shooter’, reached over 1 million listens. The outfit followed this up with the release of EP, Rat Blanket, two years later - earning slots at various festivals including Green Man and Truck. Support slots soon followed as the band played with various artists such as Hotel Lux,  LICE and Black Honey.

After a couple of years away from the public eye, the four-piece returned when sophomore EP Rabbit Wench was released in September 2021 - a record that has been met with a great deal of critical reception.

The release has been coupled with a number of prestigious live shows; playing at both legs of Dot to Dot, Wide Eyed Festival in Leicester, two headline shows in Bristol and London as well as their biggest gig to date supporting IDLES in January 2022.

Rabbit Wench, produced by Dom Mitchinson of fellow Bristol band Spectres, is raw and brooding in all the right places; an untamed beast that is both violent and forlorn. Motifs within the record appear to centre around gender imbalance and abuse of power, making the record (and particularly the track ‘Scold’s Bride’) a thought provoking listen.

This folklore inspired lyricism is delivered in a manner that interweaves powerfully with menacing, punk-inspired composition. Clattering drums pierce the Pixie-esque guitar in an industrial manner throughout the album that runs at under 15 minutes.

Wych Elm’s return to Bristol on 18 December will be hotly anticipated as the four-piece have garnered a loyal indie fan base in the city over the past few years.

Tickets for the show can be purchased on The Louisiana website, as can a list of gigs coming up at the prestigious Bristol venue.
