Smoke and Mirrors announce new comedy open mic night

Posted on: 22 Sep 2021

The magic and comedy theatre venue is launching its new open mic night for budding comedians looking to get experience performing in front of a live audience.

Smoke & Mirrors has long been a staple of Bristol's comedy scene, with some of the nation's best-loved acts including Russel Howard and Jon Richardson playing some of their first gigs there.

The BS1 venue has built a strong reputation for supporting emerging talent, and their new open mic night Joke & Mirrors is no exception, with all money taken going straight to the performers.

The first group of comedians will take to the stage on Wednesday 22 September, so why not support local acts and book yourself some tickets here?

In a statement, the venue said: "we are pleased to announce a new night, Joke & Mirrors - a night for budding Stand Up Comedians to see if they have what it takes. They can only do this with your help.

"All comedians started at an open mic night, Russel Howard and Jon Richardson, in fact, started here at Smoke & Mirrors, so come on down and see if you could be in the audience and say “I was here when they started."

Smoke & Mirrors has continued to support grassroots comedy throughout the pandemic, hosting socially distanced shows to keep Bristol's emerging talent on the stage.

Now, as Covid-19 related restrictions are eased, live comedy is looking more like its old self, and the venue is back to hosting a schedule of shows more akin to its pre-pandemic programme.

Find more info and get tickets here. There are only a handful left for tonight's show, so don't hang about!
