Bristol retailers relaunch 'Tour of Broadmead' to raise money for good causes

Posted on: 22 Jul 2021

The Bristol Shopping team will be cycling the distance from Penzance to Aberdeen to raise money for eight local charities.

The Tour of Broadmead static cycling challenge is returning to central Bristol this summer, with representatives from a selection of Broadmead retailers set to cover more than 1000km for charity.

Mirroring the route of the Tour of Britain, which sees cyclists travel the length of the UK across eight stages, the Tour of Broadmead will take place in the heart of Bristol's shopping district from Saturday 31 July to Saturday 7 August.

The tour will once again be raising money for eight charities across eight days. Head to the Bristol Shopping Quarter website to find out more and make a donation to the project.

Following on from the success of the first three Tour of Broadmead events in 2016, 2017 and 2018, the challenge is returning for its fourth edition in 2021 to raise vital funds for local charities.

The first confirmed charity, which will be receiving funds raised on Stage One of the challenge (Saturday 31 July), is the Southmead Hospital Charity, dedicated to supporting groundbreaking research, cutting-edge equipment, and patient, staff and family wellbeing.

The following day, Sunday 1 August, participants will be cycling the distance from Sherford to Exeter in support of the Bristol arm of national mental health charity Mind.

The Mind Bristol team support people with mental health problems in Bristol and its surrounding areas, contribute to mental and emotional wellbeing and work to reduce stigma and discrimination.

From there, beneficiaries of the Tour of Broadmead event include Radio Lollipop (Monday 2 August), St Peter's Hospice (Tuesday 3), St Mungo's (Wednesday 4), Empire Fighting Chance (Thursday 5), Children's Hospice South West (Friday 6) and Above & Beyond (Saturday 7).

The Tour of Broadmead has been organised by Broadmead Bristol BID, and is supported by The Galleries and PureGym Union Gate, with the latter providing the static cycles for the challenge.

Each day the team will be cycling in the heart of Broadmead (or inside The Galleries if it's raining), while representatives of each charity will be on hand to chat to shoppers and take donations.

Donations can be made in-person throughout the challenge, or via the Bristol Shopping website, where you can find links to each charity's donation portal.
