Seamus O'Donnell's in Bristol to host pride event

Posted on: 09 Jul 2021

The pub on St Nicholas Street will host the event on Friday 23 July 2021, just days after the lifting of Covid-19 related restrictions.

The popular Irish bar has joined a growing list of venues nationwide participating in the first-ever UK Pub Pride, aiming to unite LGBTQ+ communities and to celebrate pride at a grassroots level.

The campaign, organised by Ask For Clive - a charity designed to combat discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community and to make venues safer and more inclusive - allows landlords complete freedom to tailor the content of the evening to their communities.

Seamus O'Donnel's has booked local drag act Dame Cherry Poppin for an exclusive performance, starting at 20:00.

Co-Founder of Ask For Clive Danny Clare said in a statement: “We are proud to be uniting the UK’s LGBTQ+ community on one big night in July. We have already seen an overwhelming response from venues across the country reaching out to learn more about the night.

"It is shaping up to be a national event reaching pubs in all corners of the UK. We cannot wait to paint the country with a rainbow and show the world that the UK is one of the most inclusively diverse and accepting countries."

Pub Pride offers venues the opportunity to show their support to the wider community and begin to rebuild their revenues after a tough year of closures and other restrictions.

Clare added: "It has been a horrific year and we want to give the community one night to celebrate who they are, what they stand for and to reunite. What’s more we will be raising funds for both the charity and local UK Pride organisations to continue supporting the wider community.

"The night will play an important role, especially for those who have come-out during the pandemic and have not been able to experience the love and support within their local LGBTQ+ community due to restrictions.”
