Posted on: 04 Feb 2021

Saffron's Springboard project will provide seven young people with grant funding and a ten-month training programme.

Bristol-based, female-run record label Saffron have officially opened applications for Springboard, a new internship scheme aimed at getting young women and non-binary people into the music industry.

The initiative will offer seven people aged 18-25 a ten-month course, providing mentoring, professional coaching and grants worth £1,000 - £3,000, supported by national charity Youth Music.

Applications are open specifically to women and gender non-conforming people based in Bristol, Bath, North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire, and will remain open until 17:00 on Saturday 26 February.

The team behind the wildly popular Mix Nights sessions, Saffron have been working tirelessly to address the gender imbalance in electronic music since their launch in 2015.

Saffron operate as a social enterprise, primarily offering training in music production, sound engineering and DJing, as well as running a record label and artist development programme.

Saffron aim to advance gender equality in an industry currently made up of just 5% women by creating a safe space for female and non-binary people to learn new skills, build confidence and develop a network of mutual support.

Unveiled this month, Saffron's Springboard initiative has been developed to support creative ideas from young people in and around Bristol, helping to launch people into a notoriously tough and male-dominated industry.

The team are looking to fund projects focused on everything from music events and showcases to recording sessions, record releases, podcasts, networking programmes, artistic development, music journalism and much more.

Those interested in applying can download a full application pack on Saffron's website, or get in touch via email with any questions or queries.
