Posted on: 19 Nov 2020

Get to know the people and pieces behind one of Bristol's best-loved arts spaces.

The team behind popular city centre arts space The Island have today (Thursday 19 November) launched their latest Open Studios event, inviting the public to enjoy exhibitions, workshops, tours and more from the comfort of their own homes.

Take place online due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and current lockdown, Open Studios is a celebration of the "adaptability, tenacity and extreme talent" shown by the artists and creators based at The Island.

Available to explore all weekend, the showcase features everything from illustration to dance, animation, music and much more.

Curated by Bristol-based charity Artspace Lifespace, this weekend's Open Studios is a true celebration of art and creativity, inviting you to jump in and try your hand at a range of different mediums.

Get involved in a dance class covering several different styles, learn to create your own animations alongside acclaimed illustrator Molly Fairhurst, or join in on a portrait workshop hosted by multi-disciplinary artist, Rose Popay.

If you're in the mood to browse, you can learn about how The Island's in-house artists and creators have fared during a difficult year in 2020, presented as a series of images put together by photographer Chandra Prasad.

Open Studios even features an extensive virtual tour of the building, covering everything from the 2020 Island Tenants' Exhibition to the deep, dark Police Cells located below-ground.
