This weekend at Everyman Cinema | What's On
Posted on: 02 Oct 2020Enjoy a film at one of Bristol's best-loved cinemas this weekend.
It's starting to look like we've had the last of this year's good weather, and with grey skies and showers setting in, where better to spend an afternoon than Bristol's premier boutique cinema?
Having reopened in late July following a brief closure during lockdown, Everyman Cinema has spent the last few weeks tentatively welcoming locals back to their screens, showing a mix of big-budget blockbusters, intimate indie films, documentaries and more.
With the weekend looking likely to be a bit of a washout, read on for a quick rundown of what's to come at Everyman, including Christopher Nolan's Tenet, David Attenborough's latest documentary and a Sunday evening screening of a Tom Hanks classic.

On the Rocks | Friday 2, Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
Faced with sudden doubts about her marriage, a young New York mother (Rashida Jones) teams up with her larger-than-life playboy father (Bill Murray) to tail her husband (Marlon Wayans) in a bittersweet comedy written and directed by Sofia Coppola.
David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet | Friday 2, Saturday 3 October
In his latest documentary, David Attenborough gives his witness statement of the natural world in A Life on Our Planet. At 94 years old, Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder.
Now, for the first time, he reflects upon both the defining moments of his lifetime as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen.
Honest, revealing and urgent, David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet is a powerful first-hand account of humanity's impact on nature and a message of hope for future generations.
After the film, audiences will have the unique chance to watch a special, exclusive conversation between Sir David Attenborough and Sir Michael Palin.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 | Friday 2, Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
Starring Eddie Redmayne and Sacha Baren Cohen alongside Michael Keaton and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, The Trial of the Chicago 7 tells the story of seven people on trial accused of various offences surrounding the uprising at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
Set amid the backdrop of the ongoing war in Vietnam, the film follows a group of defendants battling a court case against an increasingly embattled US justice system.
Cats & Dogs: Paws Unite | Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
One for the family, the latest entry in the much-loved Cats & Dogs series follows secret agents Gwen the Cat and Roger the Dog, who covertly protect and save the world right under the humans' noses.
Their partnership is made possible by the Great Truce, which has stopped dog and cat hostility for a decade, but the long-standing peace is threatened when a supervillain parrot discovers a way to manipulate wireless frequencies that only dogs and cats can hear.
Will the heroes be able to stop the foul fowl, or will he cause a cat-a-strophe between the species?
Forrest Gump | Sunday 4 October
Is there a film better suited to a Sunday afternoon than Forrest Gump? We certainly don't think so, and Everyman are showing the heartwarming classic this weekend to cure those early-Autumn blues.
Main character Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life.
Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But, one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save - his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny (Robin Wright).
Tenet | Friday 2, Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
One of the most eagerly-anticipated films in recent history, director Christopher Nolan's (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception) hugely ambitious Tenet is finally here.
In this tense modern thriller, John David Washington (son of Denzel Washington) leads a formidable cast of characters into the unknown realm of 'inversion', a mind-bending form of time travel, in an effort to avoid the potential of a World War III.
With unprecedented action set pieces and stunning international settings, Tenet has become one of the most talked-about films in years, a standout release in a difficult year for the film industry.
Bill and Ted Face the Music | Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
Directed by Dean Parisot with returning franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, buddy comedy Bill and Ted Face the Music continues to track the time-traveling exploits of William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. and Theodore "Ted" Logan.
Yet to fulfil their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it.
Along the way, they'll be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures and a musical legend or two to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.
Rocks | Friday 2, Saturday 3, Sunday 4 October
Set in London, Sarah Gavron's 2019 film follows teenager Rocks (Bukky Bakray) who fears that she and her little brother Emmanuel (D'angelou Osei Kissiedu) will be forced apart if anyone finds out they are living alone.
With the help of her friends, she evades the authorities and navigates the most defining days of her life. A film about the joy, resilience and spirit of girlhood.
