The Gryphon to mark 10th anniversary with virtual raffle

The Gryphon to mark 10th anniversary with virtual raffle

Posted on: 17 Sep 2020

The heavy metal pub has an enviable collection of merchandise and a BC Rich guitar up for grabs.

Eleven years ago, the top corner of Colston Street was home to a gay bar named The Griffin.

But by 2010, the building changed hands. It was now home to The Gryphon, a new heavy metal and real ale bar for Bristol.

Fast forward a decade, and The Gryphon has become an internationally-known heavy metal venue, loved for its strict real ale policy (strictly guests, no repeats).

To celebrate ten years at the top of Colston Street, The Gryphon is hosting a raffle draw via live stream tomorrow, Friday 18 September. Here's what you need to know.

Why is The Gryphon hosting a raffle?

Due to COVID-19, The Gryphon has been shut since March. It's an intimate venue, with a 50-capacity gig space.

The pub is set to reopen in the coming months, but in the meantime, The Grpyhon continues to sell beer with free delivery to the local area. Find out more

Luckily, the pub’s recent crowdfunding campaign smashed its initial target, but while The Gryphon remains closed, it’s important for the team to keep fundraising.

And so, every penny raised by the upcoming raffle will help keep The Gryphon alive.John stood outside The Gryphon

What's up for grabs?

Raffle prizes include merchandise generously donated by bands, like vinyl and t-shirts, artwork, and a BC Rich guitar donated by local heavy rock band Land Captains.

Among the other raffle donors are bands like Ashcloud, My Silent Wake and Warrior Pope.

Where can I get a ticket?

When is the draw happening?

The names of those who purchase a raffle ticket will be placed into a ‘bucket of luck’, ready to be drawn on Friday 18 September.

The raffle draw will be streamed live via The Gryphon’s official Facebook Page (or via Twitch, if there are any technical difficulties) from 20:00.

After the raffle, stick around to hear pub owner John Ashby rocking out some tunes via JQBX. (You'll need a Spotify account to listen along.)

In the meantime, grab a ticket and find out what's coming up at The Gryphon in 2021 on the pub's Facebook Page
