This Whiteladies bar now has 20 local beers and ciders available on tap

Discover local breweries like Lost & Grounded, Moor Beer, Wiper & True and Arbor Ales at Flipside.

A popular Whiteladies bar is now home to 20 draught beers and ciders from the local area, with many more available in cans and bottles.

Flipside is known for cocktails, but it has now thrown a range of local brewers into the mix, signalling a new chapter for the venue.

Installed earlier this month, the new tap wall boasts beloved Bristol producers including Lost & Grounded, Moor Beer and Wiper & True.

"Due to COVID-19, we've had to adapt our business model and thought this was the perfect time to shift our focus," bar owner Andy Dodd explains.

"We are now moving our focus from being a cocktail party bar to follow mine and the staff's love of beer."

From ciders to IPAs, to stouts and ales; Flipside's new focus on locality is a deliberate decision.

"With such an amazing array of craft brewers here in Bristol that are making such delicious beer, we thought it only right to keep our new 20 drop tap wall as local as possible," Andy continues.

"We aim to have all our beers and ciders from within a 30-mile radius of the bar.

“We will not be tied to any breweries in particular, giving us the flexibility to chop and change our offering as our guests and we see fit."

With the flexibility afforded by a 20-strong draught line, Andy says he hopes to offer guests the option of a core line, as well as some more leftfield choices.

The past few months have indeed represented a period of change and adaptation for Flipside.

During the lockdown, Flipside set up a cocktail home delivery service, Cocktails 2 You, which has continued since the bar reopened in July.

Arriving complete with the garnish, Flipside’s nifty at-home cocktail pouches are hand-mixed by Flipside bartenders, delivered in time for the weekend.

Back inside the bar, as well as a new focus on local breweries, Flipside is also preparing to open up its kitchen with the help of new Stokes Croft street food restaurant El Jefe Cubanos.

"We can’t wait to have people in drinking craft beer and eating their delicious Cuban sandwiches in our lovely rear beer garden."

Despite the new line of beers, Andy reassures that cocktails will remain firmly on the menu:

“With our focus shifting towards craft beer we will still be offering the great cocktails that we are known for, along with the soundtrack of party beats."

Flipside is open Thursday to Sunday, from 15:00 to 00:30.
