Tonight: Strange Brew to host virtual debut event via live stream

Posted on: 20 Aug 2020

Catch the venue's grand opening in the (virtual) company of Batu, Shanti Celeste, Danielle and more.

New Bristol venue Strange Brew will be hosting its long-awaited debut event tonight (Thursday 20 August), with an array of acclaimed artists locked in to play as part of a five-hour live-streamed party.

Taking place from 19:00-00:00, Strange Brew's Video Stream will be broadcasted live to living rooms across Bristol and beyond by the Noods Radio team.

Sadly, amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis, doors and windows to the venue itself will be firmly closed for the duration.

Strange Brew's debut event might not look quite like the team had imagined it, but a lineup consisting of some of Bristol's best and brightest will ensure that it will at least sound like one to remember.

As well as Timedance boss Batu and Idle Hands alumni Shanti Celeste, expect killer sets from Mix Nights mentor Danielle, synth maestro Finlay Shakespeare, post-punk outfit DAMEFRISØR and composer and live artist Wojciech Rusin.

A selection of local visual artists have been enlisted to spice up the live experience too, including Joe Evans, Lizzy Hoar, Laura Phillips, Max Kelan and Jasminne Butt.

Located on Fairfax Street in the city centre and built almost from the ground up by Bristol promoters DIRTYTALK, the opening of new music and arts venue Strange Brew has been well over a year in the making.

The team launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the project back in May 2019, which saw more than £50,000 raised in a little under a month.

It's hoped that Strange Brew can become a hub of underground music in central Bristol, with a number of similarly-sized venues having closed in recent years and some likely to follow suit in the coming months.

Originally due to open in August last year, Strange Brew had already been delayed slightly before the outbreak of coronavirus. But, with the DIRTYTALK team ready and raring to go, tonight's live stream is set to become the first-ever event at the new venue.

Tune in tonight from 19:00 onwards via Noods Radio, or head to the Strange Brew Facebook page for more information.
