Tokyo World 2020 postponed

Tokyo World 2020 postponed

Posted on: 14 Aug 2020

Festival organisers released a statement on Wednesday.

The 2020 edition of Tokyo World has been postponed. The annual music festival was due to kick off on Saturday 19 September at Eastville Park.

Due to COVID-19, the festival team have confirmed it won’t be possible to reschedule the event early next year.

Instead, the festival is set to return from 18 September to 19 September 2021.

Announcing the postponement on the festival website and social media channels, the team said:

“This year has probably been one of the hardest years we have faced & we’re sure it’s the same for everyone during these testing times.

“We strongly believed that, given our event was six months away from the start of lockdown, it would be safe for our gates to open & that Tokyo World would take place in September.

“We have held out for as long as we possibly could & remained hopeful that this would be the case.”

The statement continues:

“There have been many U-turns during these unprecedented times, but it now looks like there is not going to be a U-turn on this decision.

“We love delivering our event but there is no option to stage the event as planned due to the decision made & ultimately our priority is and always will be the safety of our customers, artists and crew.

“With this in mind Tokyo World 2020 will be postponed.”

According to the statement, 2020 tickets will remain valid for Tokyo World 2021, but there will also be an option to request a refund.

Festival organisers also announced they plan to increase Tokyo World's capacity to 25,000 in 2021, in response to the high volume of tickets sold this year.

In the statement, organisers said the 2021 lineup will be revealed at a "much earlier" date than usual, and they plan to add "additional artists to what is already an incredible program."
