Bristol venues and cultural spaces illuminated red as part of #WeMakeEvents campaign
Posted on: 12 Aug 2020#WeMakeEvents aims to raise awareness for the struggling events industry.
Venues across Bristol were bathed in red light last night (Tuesday 11 August) as owners, operators and members of staff look to shine a light on the uncertain future the UK's live event industry is facing.
Events professionals also stood, socially-distanced, in front of a number of venues in Bristol and across the UK to hit home the message that, without proper government support, the live events sector is at serious risk of collapse.
Organised by PLASA and the NTIA, and supported across the arts and culture sector, the #WeMakeEvents campaign has issued a nationwide 'Red Alert' in an effort to force the issue for thousands of people employed in events roles.
Event professionals from Bristol have come together to highlight that our industry is at ‘red alert’. We’re here calling on the government to ‘throw us a line’ and take necessary measures to keep our industry alive. #WeMakeEvents #Lightitinred @PlasaOnline @tpimagazine pic.twitter.com/8vi7B1SJ9v

Some of Bristol's most iconic venues and cultural spaces were illuminated in red last night in support of the campaign, including Colston Hall, Motion and the Bristol Hippodrome.
The Bristol City Council building was also lit up, where roughly 100 people stood in silence on College Green in a display of solidarity for events staff nationwide.
Events company SLX Media led a team of professionals in setting up lighting, staging and projections for the demonstration, enlisting the services of a number of Bristol-based companies including Fineline Lighting, Cirque Bijou and Enlightened.
Elsewhere, several venues took to social media to post photos of their illuminations, accompanying them with messages of support for the #WeMakeEvents campaign.
Tonight we light up our building red in support of the freelancers, suppliers and numerous professionals who are vital to the live events industry.
