Broadmead’s historic shopping quarter is set to reopen on 15 June.

In the heart of Bristol’s shopping district, you’ll find The Arcade: a Grade II listed shopping quarter.

Designed by local architect James Foster in 1824, The Arcade is thought to be modelled on London’s Burlington Arcade.

Today, The Arcade is a hub for independent businesses; from family-run key cutters to sustainable illustration and fashion brands. See the full list here

Several weeks ago, The Arcade had its iron gates chained shut amid increased lockdown measures.

But thanks to an easing of lockdown measures, the independent shopping hub is set to reopen on Monday 15 June.

Some retailers already confirmed to reopen on Monday 15 June include The Arcade’s tailoring service Needle and Thread, and the quarter’s award-winning key cutting service, Mabz.

Shakeaway, The Arcade’s customizable milkshake café, and Superior Vapour, the quarter’s independent vape shop, are also set to reopen on 15 June.

As for The Arcade’s popular health and beauty services, such as specialist kid’s hair salon EK Hair, they await further government guidance as to when and how to reopen.

EK Hair recently spoke with the BBC about their plans to reopen, and the precautions they would take to welcome back their family-orientated client base.

For The Arcade’s grand reopening, a local artist has been commissioned to create a mural which celebrates and thanks Bristol’s key workers and NHS staff.

While The Arcade has been closed, the quarter’s array of independent businesses have been keeping busy behind the scenes.

The quarter’s award-winning card shop, Card Shack, launched an online store, while Gallery Du 808, The Arcade’s art gallery, opened applications for its AW20 exhibition
