Rough Trade Bristol awarded grant from Arts Council England

Posted on: 27 Apr 2020

The grant will allow the Nelson Street record shop, live music space and cafe/bar to upgrade its sound equipment.

On Friday (24 April), Rough Trade Bristol announced in a blog post that they had been awarded a National Lottery Project Grant from Arts Council England.

The National Lottery Project Grant is a ring-fenced subsidy aimed at supporting grassroots music venues which are 'vital to England's music ecology.'

The grant has also been awarded to fellow Bristol music venues The Louisiana and The Exchange.

In the blog post, the team behind the Nelson Street record shop and live music space explained what the grant will mean for the venue:

"The funding we've been awarded will allow us to upgrade various sound equipment and improve sound treatments to the venue for the benefit of all."

The post also expressed Rough Trade's thanks to the local live scene, as well as Arts Council England:

"As one of the newest venues in the city, we are very humbled with the support we've received from everyone - including promoters, bands, other venues - and everyone who has come to the shows.

"If it wasn't for yourselves, we wouldn't be able to do this, so HUGE 'thank you!' to you all."

"And of course, a huge thank you to Arts Council England for trusting what we do, and enabling us to continue working in such a fantastic grassroots music scene."

A record shop, live space and café/bar, Rough Trade Bristol opened on Nelson Street during December 2017.

Since then, the likes of IDLES, Metronomy and Django Django have performed in-store.
