5 Things To Do This Weekend in Bristol | 17 – 19 January 2020

Posted on: 17 Jan 2020

January is hard, isn't it?

The festivities have well and truly subsided; meaning it's back to work, school and study, with not much reward.

But don't worry, it's nearly over. It's time to put a stop to those January blues with a jam-packed weekend in Bristol.

Not sure where to start? From cheap theatre tickets to a brand-new, free entry Spike Island exhibition, here's five things you can do this weekend in Bristol.

Bandaoke @ The Rising Sun

Forget the rubbish backing track - bandaoke lets you sing your favourite karaoke hits, with the help of a full live band!

Head to The Rising Sun in Windmill Hill on Saturday 18 January from 20:30 to take part.

With a huge selection of tracks to choose from, all you have to do is put your name on the list along with your song choice. But get down early - it's sure to get busy, and that list fills up fast.

Pacita Abad, Life in the Margins @ Spike Island

A brand-new exhibition is opening at Spike Island this weekend. (It's free entry!)

The first exhibition in the UK by Filipino-American artist Pacita Abad, Life in the Margins sees work that explores image-making across cultures, histories and styles.

The exhibition preview is happening tonight (Friday 17 January) from 18:00 to 21:00. Alternatively, visit the gallery between 10:00 and 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday.

Get running @ Hengrove Park

On Sunday morning (19 January), head to the brand-new Hengrove Park - in what was the old airfield - for its very first Great Local Run.

Join fellow walkers and runners as you take to a 5K or 2K course, at zero cost. What better way to kick off the year? Find out more here

The Hare on the Hill reopens

It's back. Celebrate the return of the beloved, and newly refurbished, Bristol pub The Hare on the Hill tonight (Friday 17 January) from 20:00.

DJ Shake Appeal will be spinning tracks all night long, and Nomad Kitchen will be back serving tasty Latin-American dishes.

Get your hands on a £15 ticket for the Book of Mormon @ The Bristol Hippodrome

Read our review of The Book of Mormon at the Bristol Hippodrome yet? If not, let it be known: it might be the most fun you'll have at the theatre all year.

If you haven't managed to bag yourself a ticket just yet, then don't worry! There's still chance. You can get one right here, or try your hard at their £15 ticket lottery.

The Bristol Hippodrome will be releasing a limited number of tickets before each performance of The Book of Mormon via ballot, in which 15 tickets will be sold at £15.

To be entered into the ballot, visit the Bristol Hippodrome Box Office two and a half hours before each performance. Entries will only be accepted in person.

Two hours before curtain, names will be drawn at random for a limited number of tickets, each priced at £15.
