Burgers in Bristol - Our guide to the city's very best burger spots

Posted on: 17 May 2019

Bristol is home to a huge range of restaurants serving great dishes from around the world, but one thing you'll see more than others is the humble burger. There are countless burger spots located across the city, each serving classic beef burgers as well as their own increasingly inventive and always-delicious original creations. The choice is so vast that picking one to go to can be daunting, so we've pulled together our picks for the very best burgers in Bristol to make the decision that little bit easier.

Oowee Diner, Bristol.

Oowee Diner / Oowee Vegan Diner

For many Bristol residents, Oowee Diner is the undisputed top dog of the city's extensive selection of burger spots right now. Their first branch opened in a tiny hole-in-the-wall takeaway in Montpelier, and they wasted no time in building up a reputation for themselves as creators of the dirtiest burgers and fries in the area. Queues regularly wind well out of the door, with customers waiting over an hour for one of their bad-boy burgers. Oowee's popularity has snowballed so much in the last year or so that they've been able to open a larger, sit-down Diner in Bedminster, and more recently opened an exclusively-vegan location on Baldwin Street, loved just as much by the Bristol public as its meaty namesakes.

Three Brothers Burgers

Burgers on a boat! Three Brothers have been posted up on the Welsh Back since their opening back in 2014, and have built up a majorly loyal following in that time thanks to their simple approach to what has become a genuine Bristol staple. They've put together an extensive menu of beef, chicken and veggie burgers that is certain to satisfy anybody's taste, but they're known almost as well for their diverse range of sides which includes chunky chilli cheese fries, deep-fried courgette fritters, buffalo hot wings, poutine and much more. Students should pay special attention to this one, with a £5 burger and fries offer to anyone with a valid student ID.

Burger Bear

What started out as a standalone London burger spot has made its way down to the Westcountry, setting up shop at Glastonbury Festival and Motion as well as opening their Gloucester Road Bristol location, and the area is most certainly better for it. Burger Bear's unique approach to their craft is evident in their fantastic food, while the team's easygoing ethos lends to an atmosphere unlike any other you'll find in any restaurant across the city, with a good ear for music and a welcoming, modern decor. The Burger Joint

The Burger Joint is the ultimate destination for food customization: choose from over 60 local ingredients, an array of dips and delicious sides to forge your perfect burger. With bottomless soft drinks, substantial patty portions and generous sides, you’ll find it hard to leave the Joint unsatisfied.

Ciao Burger

One of the lesser-known burger spots in the city, Ciao Burger do things their own way and have put together a short but completely-customisable menu. Their small location on Gloucester Road roughly halfway between central Bristol and Filton is more geared up for quick visits and Deliveroo riders than sit-down dining, but is welcoming nonetheless and home to some of the best takeaway-style burger meals in the city.

Hubbox

Having been open for just over a year, Hubbox has proved a force to be reckoned with when it comes to a student discount. With their loaded pattys, dirty fries and extensive weekly offers, this punky burger abode is a savvy choice. Watch out for their discount boards to keep up with loan-saving offers.

Squeezed Bristol.

The Hobgoblin

Not known exclusively for its burgers, The Hobgoblin is a warm and friendly pub located on Gloucester Road, serving up a delicious and varied food menu alongside your typical selection of beers, ciders, wines and spirits. Their burger menu is long and diverse with two or three tasty vegetarian options to boot, with a range of ingredients and attention to detail that seriously pushes the boundaries of what you can call pub food and an atmosphere to rival any other pub in the area.

Squeezed

Flying the flag for the Wapping Wharf area is Squeezed Bristol, a burger spot run by certified burger-flipping royalty, National Burger Awards' 2019 Burger Chef of the Year, Alex Hayes. Cooking up the classics as well as a few of their own creations and championing fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, Squeezed has certainly won over the people of Bristol and will be a fixture in the city for years to come.
