Gloucester Road Central Mayfest on Saturday 5th May 2018
Posted on: 03 May 2018The annual Gloucester Road Central Mayfest returns over this Bank Holiday weekend on Saturday 5th May 2018.
A proper, Bristol-style celebration organised by the shops on Europe's longest street of independent business, there will be plenty of delicious food, top-drawer drink, foot-stomping tunes, a raft of competitions and loads of creative activities to keep everyone entertained.
Jack in the Green and his happy troupe of dancers and musicians will be passing through the Mayfest celebrations too, making their way from the Harbourside and passing Gloucester Road at around 3.30pm. When they reach their final destination on Horfield Common they'll enact a ritual to release the spirit of summer.
The Gloucester Road Central Mayfest embodies the very essence of a true community event, giving shops, neighbours, friends and family the perfect chance to mix and mingle throughout the day. Other free activities will include biscuit decorating at Joe's Bakery, info and quizzes courtesy of Avon Wildlife Trust and other charities, and Billie Jean's special Cashmere event.
Also getting in on the action will be Giles Butchers who will be serving scrumptious food from their outside BBQ, bargain deals throughout the day at Xpress Computers, and special therapy talks and tasters at Osna Therapies. You'll need a bit of cash too, so you can stock up on a few Bristol Pounds from the hole in the wall at Pearce's Hardware.
There will also be a special pop-up stall in the form of Preserve, a new store that will be opening up on Gloucester Road in June and whose ethos is based on zero waste, shopping without plastic and eschewing any unnecessary packaging. They will be stocking an impressive range of wholefoods, non-foods and offering plenty of practical alternatives to everyday disposable items such as stainless steel straws and reusable bamboo coffee cups.
Running from 10am to 4pm, The Gloucester Road Central Mayfest is an exciting amalgam of cafes, art galleries, furniture shops, fruit & veg purveyors and a whole lot more, and definitely a vibrant community event to scribble onto your Bank Holiday calendar.
