Just Jacks 8th Birthday Review, Motion Bristol. 1/02/2014 - Alex Lucani and Thomas Greenwell

So it has come round to that time of year whereby Just Jack celebrates their birthday. For this 8th birthday party extravaganza they really did pull out all the stops. No fewer than 8 headline acts from the world of house music descended upon Motion that night for the festivities, they were MOODYMANN, OMAR S, BICEP, MIDLAND, PAUL WOOLFORD (SPECIAL REQUEST), GERD JANSON, ROMAN FLUGEL,TOMSON and  BEZ (HAPPY MONDAYS). With all these acts playing it was going to be a busy night.

Upon arrival we could see that it was going to be a big night, the queue stretched back a long way but there was an excited feel from the crowd. Upon entering there were dodgems to offer something different from the night. There was also face painting available to those who wanted to gain access to the special Clown Bar, accessible to those who were in clown based attire.

With so many acts of 3 stages it was at sometimes difficult to keep track of who was playing and at what time but there were some memorable songs that allowed us to recognise who was playing.

Moodyman’s set in the Warehouse was extremely good as he played some of his newer stuff such as “Watchin You” and “Sunday Hotel” whilst playing some of his more well-known songs “I Can’t Kick This Feeling When It Hits” and “Dem Young Sconies”. All very apparent of his tech/house style.

Paul Woolford played an good set from the Ramp room, keeping a very deep house vibe with remix’s of some very well know songs including Disclosures Help Me Lose My Mind and Inside the Groove. However it was Bicep who played a set to remember. The irish DJ duo of Andrew Feguson and Matthew McBriar, played some     of their hits from their EP Feel my Bicep, with “Satisfy” receiving the biggest reaction from the crowd, whist hits like “Sacrifice” and “Vision of love where greeted by the excited crowd.

From the Tunnel Gerd Janson and Roman Flugel played memorable sets, Gerd Janson who runs the German Label Running Back together with Thorsten Scheu, played some good songs, he is experiencing more global success after many years on the German house circuit. Roman Flugel is a huge name in the German electronic scene and Just Jack did very well to get him to come along. He played a fantastic set with some house, techno and electro vibes and was well received by the crowd.

Just before the close those who stayed behind were treated to a final set of a mix of the different acts/djs and they did not disappoint keeping the crowd going until the close at about 7am.

This was a very successful night for Just Jack at Motion, once again not disappointing in anyway and everybody seemed to have an extremely enjoyable night.
