Clearly there is a reason that Delmonico continues to thrive after 13 years and from what I could see it's down to tasty, well thought out dishes that represent fantastic value. Definitely worth checking out for a tasty brunch.

Delmonico is an independently owned restaurant, with a passion for serving fresh, locally sourced produce and ingredients, situated at 217 Gloucester Road, Bishopston in Bristol.

Family owned, Delmonico is now in its 13th year of trading, and is one of the many independent businesses that make up the rich fabric of Gloucester Road. Keen to see what it's been doing right to enable it to thrive all of these years and never having before eaten there, I paid it a visit, along with my two young children.

It's fair to say, Delmonico already has a great local reputation for serving good, local food in the evenings, served from its restaurant menu. What many may not know is that by day the restaurant becomes a café serving a brunch menu and teas, coffees and cakes.

With it's terrace out the front and lovely, cosy carpeted interior, on first glance it's a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the road outside. When I arrived, there were a mixture of adults, young families and elderly people enjoying drinks and food.

The staff were friendly and relaxed. The brunch menu consists of cooked breakfasts (full English, eggs florentine, eggs benedict, marinated sardines, vegetarian breakfast, pancakes and toast); sandwiches; light lunches (ham hock terrine, soup of the day, savoury muffin, Chicory, walnut, pear and blue cheese salad) and Main dishes (Minute steak, Ham, Egg and Chips, Roasted Butternut Squash and Wild Mushroom & Garden Pea Risotto, Pork & Apple Bangers and Mash) and finally a Grazing Board with a choice of tapas like dishes (Calamari, meatballs, sourdough bread, chicken wings, sardine fillets, baby aubergine and pepper salad, patatas bravas and hummus). There's also a children's menu with a choice of child friendly options including spaghetti bolognaise and fish fingers).

Delmonico Restaurant in Bristol's sharing platterMy 11 year old daughter and I shared the Grazing board at £12.95 for two people and my eight year old son had the spaghetti dish. For our grazing board we chose Chicken Wings, Calamari, Meatballs, Sourdough Bread and the Patatas Bravas. The calamari was deliciously crispy, the meatballs tasty and well seasoned, the chicken wings a decent size and all delicious. At £12.95 for two people the sharing board represents great value and filled both of us.

My son happily ate his spaghetti!

There's a decent selection of cakes for desert or ice cream with the kids menu too.

Clearly there's a reason that Delmonico continues to thrive after 13 years and from what I could see it's down to tasty, well thought out dishes that represent fantastic value. Definitely worth checking out for a tasty brunch!!
