There's still time to catch Protoje this week

Posted on: 26 Mar 2024

Massively acclaimed musical artist Protoje is coming to Bristol at the end of this week, and you've got just enough time to grab tickets.

Protoje is a musical artist renowned for his wizardly fusion of reggae and dancehall with popular motifs from soul, jazz, hip-hop, and whatever else takes his fancy - a consistent chartopper in his main genre, Protoje is a musician clearly at the very top of his game, and he's coming to Bristol this month to prove it. Raised by the Caribbean musical power couple of chart-topping 70s singer Lorna Bennett and calypso singer Mike Ollivierre, Protoje’s lineage is clear in his genre-shifting reggae hits.

Blending soul, jazz and hip-hop into the body of his reggae and dancehall, Protoje has consistently earned a place on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with album after album – earning a Grammy nomination for his most recent, 2022 album Third Time’s The Charm.

Protoje is coming to Bristol at the end of this week - this Friday, Friday the 29th of March. Born and raised in Jamaica, it's unlikely you'll get many chances to see Protoje in the UK - much less in our home city of Bristol, so take this one while you can! He'll be appearing at O2 Academy Bristol on Frogmore St, right in the centre of Bristol - so you've got no excuse not to come and witness his awesome musical power.

Protoje is part of a prodigious month of musical maestros visiting the O2, from classic guitar heroes Dragonforce (best known for 'Through the Fire & Flames'), to alt hip-hop heroes The Pharcyde, so you know that he must be a hero in his own right - a true reggae rebel, in the mould of some of the truly great musicians of the genre, but bringing his own fresh twist to the show as well.

Tickets can be found here.
