Bristol Animal Rescue Centre launches animal foster programme

Posted on: 26 Mar 2024

The oldest and largest local animal charity has launched a foster programme to transform the lives of animals in need.

Bristol ARC’s fresh programme will allow Bristolian members of the animal lover’s community to make a profound difference by helping animals who may struggle within the rescue centre environments or who may benefit from personalised, one-on-one care.

By becoming a foster carer, applicants can become integral to these animals’ journeys towards their forever homes. Find out more and register your interest, HERE.

Participants in the programme must live within a 30-minute drive of the centre, ensuring timely support and care for the animals. Bristol ARC covers all costs of animal care and foster carers must provide the animals with love and attention as well as follow the guidance from the charity.

One heart-warming example of fostering’s impact is the story of Colby. Found as a frightened 8-week-old stray, Colby struggled with crippling separation anxiety in the kennel environment. However, thanks to dedicated foster carers who gave him love and comfort, Colby thrived while awaiting his forever home, which he has now found.

Speaking about the programme, Kayleigh Jeffries (Foster Coordinator at Bristol ARC) has said:

“If you've ever considered opening your home to an animal in need, now is the perfect time to get involved. Fostering animals serves as a lifeline for those who can't cope in the rescue centre environment, providing them with the love, care, and stability they need to thrive.”

Bristol A.R.C. has been caring for the city’s pets and wildlife since 1887, helping, healing and homing thousands of vulnerable animals each year. The self-funded, RSPCA-affiliated charity is the largest in Bristol and relies entirely on community support.
