Fronted by the charismatic American Hynde, The Pretenders emerged from the burgeoning London punk/new wave scene of the late 70s. However, they were not a natural fit in the scene’s aggressive, spiky world due to their more melodic, accessible style.

Their self-titled debut came out in 1980, soaring to the top of the UK charts and becoming known as one of the greatest-ever first-time albums. Producing such rock hits as ‘I’ll Stand By You’, ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’, ‘Brass in Pocket’, ‘2000 Miles’ and ‘Back on the Chain Gang’ in their back catalogue, The Pretenders are one of the UK’s most respected outfits.

The band began touring their latest album, Relentless, last year with a headline set at Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival before embarking on a UK tour, treating fans to unreleased material as well as a selection of classic numbers.

As well as Bristol, The Pretenders’ 2024 UK tour will see them play massive venues in Portsmouth, Oxford, Edinburgh, Gateshead, Hull, Nottingham, London, Ipswich, Birmingham and Manchester. Due to Chrissie Hynde’s knee injury, all these shows will now take place in October, visit the band’s website for more information.
